Retekess TR111: A Tiny Beast of a Radio with Gorgeous Sound Quality!

A compact "brick" that makes sound! And the sound is simply the bomb!

I've been looking forward to this for a long time to be honest! I ordered it mainly because of its compact size and great sound quality. It didn't disappoint me! Although, of course, there are some “buts” ......

The first thing that catches your attention is the size.

The Retekess TR111 is indeed very compact! But what really blew my mind was the sound! Very, very loud! At the same time, the sound is balanced and very pleasant at any volume. There is no rattle or wheezing, even with the volume turned up to max!

The radio is very well assembled and feels like a solid piece of hardware. No bounce, squeaks or other glitches. It feels well made.

Controls - surprisingly convenient!

Strangely enough, the controls turned out to be very convenient! Although at first glance it seems that there are not enough buttons, everything is actually intuitive and easy to learn.

FM, MW, SW - catches it all!

I was very happy with the sensitivity on FM! Especially considering the size of the antenna (32cm). It receives medium wave (MW) quite well considering its size. I also have no complaints about the reception on shortwave (HF). Overall, everything is top notch as far as radio reception is concerned! There is also the VHF range (30-200 MHz).

Equalizer:

There are 6 equalizer presets, but they only work when playing music from Bluetooth or a memory card. Unfortunately, there is no sound setting when receiving radio. That's a bit disappointing.

A fly in the ointment!

But as they say, nothing is perfect. There are also some things I don't like so much:

There is mono sound in the headphones when receiving radio broadcasts!

High power consumption! The minimum current consumption is about 70 mA and about 500 mA at maximum volume! If listening at high volume, the non-removable 1000 mAh battery will not last long at this consumption level. This is perhaps the biggest drawback of this radio.

I haven't considered the smartphone control feature yet because I think it's a waste of time. Maybe I'll use it later, but for now the buttons on the receiver itself are enough for me.

Conclusion: Retekess TR111 - small but powerful! I recommend it!

Overall, I like retekess TR111 ham radio receiver! It is really compact, loud and receives radio stations very well. Of course, there are disadvantages, such as the mono sound of the headphones, and the "gluttonous" appetite. But in my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

So if you are looking for a small but powerful radio receiver, Retekess TR111 is a good choice! I recommend it! Just be prepared to charge it frequently, especially when you listen to music at a high volume.
